Leonardo da Vinci’s ‘The Virgin of the Rocks’ is a significant piece in art history. Painted around 1483-1486, it showcases Leonardo’s mastery of oil painting and his pioneering techniques in chiaroscuro and sfumato. The painting portrays the Virgin Mary, the Christ Child, John the Baptist, and an angel in a rocky setting. Originally commissioned for an altarpiece, the painting exists in two versions, with this one housed in the Louvre, Paris. It marked a pivotal advancement in Renaissance art, emphasizing naturalism and complex composition.
